14 – Create a screenshot for your WordPress theme

August 17, 2019

Hi! In this video, we’re going to create a screenshot for our WordPress theme. You’ve probably noticed that the theme screenshot of our exported theme is not shown. The screenshot is the image that is displayed when you are in the theme section of your WordPress admin area. So let’s create one! Start your favorite graphic editor and create a new image. The easiest way is to use a screen capture of your theme. The recommended resolution is 880×660. Save your image as screenshot.png in your HTML template folder. Make sure that the file is there. From Pinegrow, export the theme and check that the screenshot.png has been exported as well. Back in WordPress dashboard, proceed with a simple refresh of the theme section and you will see the new theme screenshot in action.

Only registered users can comment.

  1. Sorry, I can't understand the role of Pinegrow here. Isn't it enough to copy the screenshot.png directly inside the theme? I don't understand why I have to export it.

  2. The idea is to keep all theme source files, including the screenshot, in one place. The latest Pinegrow can create the screenshot from within the app.
