At least 20 killed by helicopter barrel bomb attack in Syria

September 8, 2019

Syrian army helicopters bombard the northern
rebel-held town of Al-Bab for a second day. 20 people including four women were reportedly
killed when improvised barrel bombs were dropped on a market district. The Syrian Observatory
for Human Rights said the death toll could rise because many others were severely wounded
in the raid. It comes just a day after 26 people were killed in a similar attack on
the same town by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. Barrel bombs, which are basically
oil drums or other cylinders filled with explosives, are usually rolled out of the back of helicopters
and as such are rarely delivered with any accuracy. Video footage uploaded to the internet
reportedly shows the aftermath of the attacks. People trying to flee the fires and explosions,
while others carry the injured to waiting ambulances. The bombardment of Al-Bab, around 25 miles
from the Aleppo, follows gains by Assad’s forces on the city’s south-eastern approaches
last month and could herald a similar ground offensive in the area. It comes at a time
of heavy fighting across the country, particularly around Aleppo. More than 100,000 people have been killed
in the two-and-a-half year conflict, which has split the Middle East. There is still
little sign that diplomacy ending the fighting, which if anything, has escalated since the
United Nations announced on Monday that the much-delayed peace conference go ahead in
Geneva towards the end of next month.

  1. I feel the observations you are noting are incorrect. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has remained bias in its reporting.Β

  2. The Syrian Observatory for human rights cannot be trusted, they have been calling for intervention to have Syria turned into a Libya,Β Β their more like a propaganda outlet for the terrorists and you guys at ITN choose to report this citing them as the source knowing or their bias tut tut.Β

  3. ITN… it's a shame, that you release such edited footage as news. This is NOT quality journalism (if you call it yourself). Those barrels are parachute dropped with food supplies for civilians who are held hostage and trapped by the terrorists. The two blasts are typical mortar impacts (no flame, as you suggest with "oil filled"). The "aftermath" footage was edited in from a vehicle based bomb blast that was done by terrorists. If ITN did this editing, then shame on you. If you received this edited video from an outside source, then stop releasing it without double checking it with qualified JOURNALISTS or mil. intel. professionals!!!!
Rebel/foreign terrorists make such videos and blame mass murders on gov. forces.

  4. Ancora credete alla favola di Assad che lancia le bombe fatte con le taniche di esplosivo riempite di ferramenta?
    Sveglia stolti!
