Embed a Twitter Feed into WordPress

August 29, 2019

Hey, y’all. Welcome to another WordPress Wednesday. My name is Kori Ashton here at WebTegrity in San Antonio, Texas. You have found a YouTube channel solely dedicated to all things WordPress. Today we’re going to be looking at a super simple and easy fix on how to embed your Twitter feed into maybe your sidebar or widget area, or even a page or a post inside your WordPress website. Super easy and the exciting thing about this is that it is a totally free option. Wow! Free is always in the budget. And, it doesn’t require a plugin. (Sound of explosion) Right, that’s crazy. You know if you watch my channel consistently, that I say try not to use more than 12 plugins at one time. The purpose for that is we start to see a website bog down with the more plugins you’re using. So, I’m always excited whenever I find a solution for our YouTube fans that doesn’t require a plugin and is free. I’m going to show you, initially, what I’m talking about for embedding a Twitter feed. You can see this solution here on this right side bar. It looks like just one Twitter post; but, as you scroll down it’s an entire timeline of tweets from this one specific user. I want to show you how to do that super easily and quickly inside of your WordPress website. I’m going to post this link to this specific page in the description box below. This is a resource specifically created by Twitter for you to embed something. So, what would you like to embed? You can choose from any of the options here. One specific tweet maybe? A profile? You can do anything like this. A collection even, which is super crazy cool. Not too much more advanced than what I’m going to show you today. If you’d like some more information about that, be sure to comment below and I’ll try to come back and do a follow up video on that. For now, I’m going to say that we want to embed WebTegrity and I’m going to click ENTER and scrolling down now, these are my two options. I’m going to do an embed timeline and there it is. This would be the nerd code that I would take over and drop into my widget; but, I want to show you one other quick thing. This shows you what my timeline could look like; but, what if I wanted to customize it a little? There are some options here to set to customize. So, you can set a specific height and let’s just say 500.
You can leave the width open so it’s responsive. Would you like it to be a darker design? If you have a darker website, you can opt for that. I’m going to stick with lighter. You can set the default color so that it matches your branding a little bit more. What language would you like? All this is super cool. Click UPDATE and that updates our nerd code here. Once you click on it, it’s copied to your clipboard and you can jump right over to your WordPress theme. Are you excited yet? Here we go. This is how you get it inside of this little sidebar over here. Inside of my theme I’m using the TwentySeventeen theme, I’m going to go inside of appearance and go to widget. This is my blog sidebar. This is my main sidebar for my blog area and I am going to look for an open text box. Drag it up and put it at the top and I’m going to go the content area and paste in what was on my clipboard. That’s the Twitter timeline nerd code that creates that cool little feed and I’m gonna say “Follow Me on Twitter” Right? Then, I’m going to go ahead and click SAVE. That’s it, y’all. As I jump back over here and click refresh, super excited to say here are my tweets. It says “Follow Me on Twitter”. Here are my tweets. I can scroll through the different timeline. Of course, it stays up to date. As soon as you publish any tweet, it’s automatically going to appear inside of that timeline. How cool is that? Super easy to do. If I went too quickly you can always click pause or rewind. Let me know what you think about it. If you have a question for your WordPress website, be sure to not only subscribe to our channel; but, give me a tweet or send me an email. I’d love to hear from you. Bye, y’all.

  1. Hi Kori, your videos are great.
Maybe you can guide me a little bit. I'm looking for a plugin/code the on click from a text "more info" display small windows next to it with more text and a link inside. Something like a tooltip bigger, or an info box. Can you help me with some ideas? The closest plugin that I found is "http://www.gopiplus.com/work/2011/11/13/wordpress-plugin-onclick-popup/" however I'm looking something prettier. Thanks for your time.

  2. Hello Kori, maybe someone has already ask you about it but please how video capture program do you use to record these videos? Tks.

  3. you are hilarious, I'm new to twitter and was searching what was this embed thingy and girl you crack me up! although I had to stop 50 millions to figure it out and I'm still working on it, but I like someone who talks fast and don't draw sooooo, slowwwww! trying to explain something ulg! so ill keep working on it! keep being up beat!

  5. hello, I've been watching lots of your videos they are super great helped me a lot thank you so much. I was wondering if you could tell me why when I paste the code on to my blog it's only showing the text! thanks in advance.

  6. Thank you so much. Is there a way to remove the Twitter feed from a single page but still visible on all other page

  7. Why do some WordPress pages have this sort of set up and others have different page settings is it determined by premium members cause some of these tutorials aren't very helpful because I don't have the dark dashboard?

  8. I'm using the Phlox theme and the timeline keeps running over and below my footer and any footer settings i tried don't fix it. any ideas?

  9. Okay – clearly everyone else was able to figure it out but I got lost at 1:09 – suddenly you were on a page and I don't know where to find that page.

  10. I tried what you said, but no timeline is displayed. If I use a different username i.e. @elonmusk is working , my username @stblack not at all, only a link. Why?? Thank you !

  11. I know this is older. But I'm just starting out with my own wordpress site and know nothing about wordpress. This was much better than the easy twitter feed. Thank you for sharing! Great work!
