RUSSIA’S ONLY AIRCRAFT CARRIER-ADMIRAL KUZNETSOV NARROWLY ESCAPS SINKING

October 13, 2019

Admiral Kuznetsov – Russia’s sole aircraft
carrier, suffered a major mishap while undergoing overhaul work at a dockyard in Roslyakovo,
near Murmansk. The aircraft carrier which displaces around
55,000 tonnes nearly sank. The warship has potent firepower as it is
capable of carrying 18 SU-33 and 6 MIG-29 as well as supersonic P-700 Granit missile
and hypersonic Kinzhal missile but is currently off duty and undergoing maintenance. The vessel has been facing major issue since
2016 when black smoke was seen coming out from it, during its engagement in the Syrian
conflict. The overhaul is slated to finish in 2020. In this video, Defense Updates analyzes how
Russia’s only Aircraft carrier-Admiral Kuznetsov narrowly escaped sinking but why it may remain
out of action for a long time? Let’s get started. The Kuznetsov was stationed inside floating
dock PD-50. The dock capable of handling vessels up to
80,000 tons is the biggest one Russia has and one of the largest in the world. On 30 Oct, the dock’s tank started to take
in water and led to tilting of the dock on one side. One of the PD-50’s two cranes which are
70-ton each fell on the deck of the Kuznetsov. This resulted in a hole of 4 by 5 meters. The second crane also got imbalance and as
per some reports fell in the sea. Somehow PD-50 did not capsize and as the water
filled the dock, Kuznetsov floated and was tugged out. In about 4 hours, PD 50 went down and sank. The PD-50 was built in Sweden in the late
1970s and was delivered to the Soviet navy in 1980. The disaster could be have been even more
catastrophic if Kuznetsov was not moved out. Russia’s state-owned shipbuilding monopoly,
the United Shipbuilding Corporation made a statement that damage to Kuznetsov was manageable
and would “not undermine plans to return the vessel back to active service in 2021.” OSKofficials blamed the PD-50 disaster on
power shortages that apparently caused the water pumps of the floating dock to malfunction. But as per some other reports, electrical
power authorities in the Murmansk region denied any power failure issue on that day. It is also to be noted that, PD-50 has its
own power generators which were supposed to negate these kinds of situations. Russian investigators have started looking
into this and the details may be out in sometime. The PD-50 loss is a big blow since it has
no easy replacement. Most of Russia’s big surface ships were
built in Soviet times which includes the Kuznetsov. The constructions of these vessels were carried
out in the Black Sea port of Mykolaiv which is now in Ukraine. Currently, Mykolaiv’s large shipbuilding
docks are unavailable to Russia because of its conflict with Ukraine. The PD-50 was the only floating dock in northern
Russia that can handle Kuznetsov or the nuclear battle cruiser Pyotr Veliki. Pyotr Veliki is also scheduled for overhaul. There is also very limited probability that
PD 50 could be salvaged from the death of the ocean and bought back to operational condition. Keeping in these factors in view, the assertion
of United Shipbuilding Corporation that the accident won’t have much impact seems incorrect. The loss of PD-50 potentially deals a severe
blow to President Putin’s naval renovation plans which is part of a larger plan to modernize
the Russian military. Hit by western sanctions, the Russian economy
is not in good shape. It was expected that under President Donald
Trump, the relation between America & Russia would improve. But things have not gone that way. Under Trump administration Russia has been
U.S has imposed many sanctions on Russia for or human rights abuses, meddling in the US
election as well as Russian military intervention in Ukraine and Syria. In 2014, the European Union had also imposed
sanctions that Russia’s finances as well as restricts many kinds of imports like sophisticated
industrial equipment. Russia has many Soviet era military platforms
and support equipment that are 3-4 decades old and are outdated by today’s standards. Many of these are having lingering issues. For example, ADMIRAL KUZNETSOV has been suffering
from propulsion issue for some time now. Many programs have seen major cutbacks due
to budget constraints. This includes the T 14 Arrmata Tank and Su
57 fifth generation stealth fighter. The training of personnel handling sensitive
undertaking is also suspect. In this situation, accelerating efforts to
rapidly upgrade the military will have many challenges and could potentially lead to more
accidents in the future.

  1. I haven’t found such an informative, well presented video (all uploads included). Such as this. The introduction gives great background information, the thesis is clear, and the information provided is all relevant. It’s basically an essay verbalized, well done

  2. What if this aircraft carrier has a war with Ford class and there is no technical problem during that time?
    It would harm the USA
I just can't understand only a single country is fighting against NATO with many sanctions and economy which is not in good condition
After all, this country ranks 2nd most powerful military
    Russia is the best!!
The USA (Superpower) also had encountered these types of anomalies
But that doesn't mean that the USA is not powerful
Likely, this doesn't mean that Russia is not powerful
    Russia is best!!!!!

  3. James Bond and MI5 is behind this. I know it! There must be an investigation. And if it WAS a James Bond type person, I suggest sending several bad guys to his house who will split up and start looking for him when they enter. But we need to capture him to figure out who else was involved in the plot. We will kill him after we know everything. Hahahahaha!

  4. Tha Russians only keep the Kuznetsov going for show. Everyone knows that it would never leave port in a real conflict scenario. Nor has any funding been allocated towards developing and building a repkacement – other than a few drawings and models. I think they have accepted that they are out of the carrier game. The real power of the Russian navy is in their submarines. These are both plentiful and relatively up to date.

  5. Talk about fake news! This channel is trash. It suffered minor damage. The only thing more stupid than this channel is the people commenting – kids who dont know what they are talking about.
PS if you want to talk about accidents go and have a look at the number of US aircraft lost this past year. The US military (most militaries) uses a huge number of cold war era legacy equipment.

  6. They have subs and can easily sink americunts aircraft carriers with their advanced cruise missiles! amerika aircraft carriers are a waste of tax payers money! Americunts are getting poor by the day but don't lose their arrogance!

  7. AIRCRAFT CARRIER DON'T WIN WARS MISSILES DOES LOTS AND LOTS OF MISSILES. ALL 10 OF U.S CARRIERS CAN BE SANK FROM A MISSILE STRIKE. JUST SEND 10 BIG MISSILES TO EACH CARRIER THE U.S CANT DEFEND THEM ALL OR SEND A NUCLEAR MISSILE AND HIT THE SHIP THAT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CONVOY AND THE BLAST IMPACT WILL WIPE OUT ALL SURROUNDING SHIP.

  8. When the next major conflict between super powers breaks out you will find aircraft carriers are obsolete which is why Russia has not doubled down on them and neither has china. Instead they maintain a defensive doctrine. Aircraft carriers dont really fit into that picture they just maintain the one to project power elsewhere..That Era is soon coming to a close with the current advances in missle technology and when it becomes possible for small nations to maintain advanced anti air systems and anti ship missles at a relatively cheap cost which is were we are headed they wont really have much of a use anymore..Im not a Russian bot..I just think that people that judge Russia's capabilities based on this big blunder that they made dont see the bigger picture

  9. Mammoth sized aircraft carriers are kinda risky to have.
They can easily be sank with supersonic missiles thus incurring a massive economic loss.

  10. Now is the Time to Start A WAR WITH RUSSIA!!!! Come on My American Friends Lets START A. WAR WITH RUSSIA LETS GET IT ON!!!! Afterall their MILITARY sucks LETS START THE WAR GO USA USA USA!!!!Lets do it Now!!!!

  11. American Baseball Watching NIT WITS THINK THEY CAN TAKE ON RUSSIA!! START THE FUCKING WAR ALREADY MAKE YOUR FUCKING MOVE OR SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!! USA IS NOTHING MORE THEN A BUNCH OF FAGGATS!!!

  12. American Baseball Watching NIT WITS THINK THEY CAN TAKE ON RUSSIA!! START THE FUCKING WAR ALREADY MAKE YOUR FUCKING MOVE OR SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!! USA IS NOTHING MORE THEN A BUNCH OF FAGGATS!!!

  13. It could be a plot to make Russian people scared so putin just builds a new ship!? Anyone thought of that as this "accident" sounds a bit suspicious

  14. Russia is slowly but surely repeating the exact same mistake that caused the USSR to implode like a house of cards in 1991. 😂😂😂😂

  15. Almost sank IN DRY DOCK. S O P for them. I would not be surprised to hear that the ship is a punishment barge .
If they can get it to float !

  16. Somebody did not do their homework:
    1) carrier – Admiral Kuznetsov was ordered to leave the dock and appear in the sea close to NATO military drill in the area. This caused problems due to bad weather (snow).
    2) Russia have another dock, but it is more closer to Japan rather than St. Petersburg

  17. So this craft won't be fully ready until 2021…thats too bad because I don't think we have that long before major war breaks out…somewhere in the world…between superpowers..

  18. Nowadays an aircraft carrier is not needed. This is WWII Technology or way of warfare. Sitting ducks and just one Russian jet torpedo or hypersonic missile..the USA carriers all on seabed. So no..Russia does not need that really. Russia is master in Rocketry and fighter jets.

  19. They might have stopped the Armata and the Sukhoi productions as they prioritize their spending. They have nuclear arsenal that might prove enough for deterrence.

  20. Add this disaster to the sink of a Russian submarine by its own torpedoes, the first that destroyed a Russian nuclear submarine I. Dry dock by a drunk welder and now a bad crane operator.

  21. Russians dont have AC carriers because they are extremely vulnerable.

It's not WWII anymore. One supersonic CM and ship go boom. 'nough said

  22. This death trap should be scrapped before anyone else is killed on it. This ship has been nothing but a headache for the Russians and a lot of sailors have died on it.

  23. That thing is a Tug Boat powered barge with a bow ramp. Not the first time it was sinking either. It will never be worth any Countries Anti-ship missile cost to sink it. Russians would be better off if it sinks. Junk no catapults no working latines short range diesel powered/ Tugboats. Russian brown water Navy is junk!

  24. Nobody needs these sitting ducks anymore. Mr Putin could have built many more but why? Today the power lies with rocketry

  25. You guys are talking about the aircraft carrier and that is just not significant. The pd50 dock that sunk is the largest blow to the Russian Navy since the dissolution of the USSR. this is a big deal and their ability to build large ships hold, refit and refurbish them is right now cutback to ships of 60000 tons or less if they can even pull that off now. This is a significant capability loss for the Russian military and it will take years to replace.

  26. There's really no reason to fear that aircraft carrier anyway. That ship has never shown itself capable of actual combat. When it tried it failed. Russia is not the USSR. the Russians used to wield the intellect of Eastern Europe and harness it for their own gains, they no longer have that option and it shows.

  27. Only morons under estimate opponents and situations. The difference between an idiot and a genius is that the idiot believes he can do anything. The genius knows his limitations.

  28. The Russians are really good at propaganda but that's actually sometimes to their detriment. Since Russia has become belligerent again they have been significantly weakend, but because their propaganda is strong people think otherwise. That's actually good for us. Consider that Russia used to have an ally in Syria with complete control over that territory and a significant military. Now they have both been depleted and their territory reduced and we now have a large piece of Syria under our control. Though they gained the Crimea, they lost the Friendship of the Ukrainians, and with that they lost a lot of industrial capacity. Also, Had the Russian Navy gotten those two totally finished ready to go French Mistral's, the Russian Navy would have a formidable anphibious force, but sanctions smacked those right out of their mouth. And now the largest floating dock in Russia that can handle ships up to 80,000 tonnes displacement has sank under the sea and they're only Prestige Capital ship will probably never sail again. And Russia's ability to refinance or recollect themselves is so constrained that they will ever increasingly become the junior partner in an alliance with the Chinese. But that Alliance will be one of convenience and not trust, an alliance of jealousy and envy on both sides and will never amount to a true military Alliance. Russia had a bit of a respite financially to get their military in some working order over the last decade or so, but now they're going to have to live off those advancements for the next 20 years and will inevitably fall behind more until they're vying for a distant fourth or fifth behind Japan in India.

  29. I like how Americans say "RuSsIa Is A jOkE", when in reality US is a joke. Russia honestly doesn't need this Aircraft Carrier, they are used for OFFENCE not DEFFENCE. US is far behind Russia. Russia developed 4th generation MTB while US is using old 80s MTBs. S-400 is so much better than Patriot that it's funny, T-90AS is so much better than Abrams. Abrams was Battle proven against T-62s, T-64s and a small number of T-72s. Abrams can't take a hit from TOW and TOW II while T-90 can. Only three tanks that can somewhat compare to T-14 are: Challenger II, Leo 2k7 and Merkava IV. US is far behind Russia in missile technology, i mean RS-28 and RS-36 (Satan I and Satan II ICBMs). Russian Krasnodar, Kursk and Typhoon class of submarines are much better that Ohio and Virginia class submarines. Conclusion: Russia is DEFENSIVE FORCE no. 1, while US is just dreaming about it's '40, '50 and '60 glory. (Nasa is using Russian engines for their Rockets, same as Space X)

  30. Russia totally deserves that because their economy is bad compared to USA and China and they don't need it because they have most of the Ballistic missiles so Russia will save a whole lot of money once that thing is gone

  31. Russia is not ready yet for WW3 because russia must at least build 5 aircraft carriers plus more aircrafts and have highter military budget.

  32. serious you don't need radar to detect this relic , just follow the rust trail , and watch out for the black smoke , as for their first real combat operation , that was a total embarrassment and showed the total lack of carrier borne skills , as for its date with the breakers yard ? once its gone , their will be no replacement ,, note Russia today seriously cannot protect its ships at sea , to include support any amphibious landings far from their mainland airbases

  33. I see a lot of people here forgetting why Russia is left with a time expired/obsolescent carrier.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/06/france-russia-mistral-warships-deal-cancelled

  34. Russia's Economy and Defense are driven by energy and the extreme lower prices of oil is only compounding the problem

  35. That thing is hideous! Smoking Dick! Take that thing to the Bone Yard already! Jesus put it out of its misery already.🇷🇺😂😂

  36. I guess anyone can make a career lying about an accident and make completely political, and geopolitical. I would like to here your comments about the USS GERAL FORD, and, USS Zumwalt problems

  37. I don't think they should scrap it… I mean.. it wouldn't be easy to actually replace ya know.. idk i know little and it maybe easier to go new ship floor up

  38. The US Navy has 69 Nuclear Powered "hunter killer" submarines…..and 11 Nuclear Powered Capital Aircraft Carriers.
