What is Markdown and How to Use Markdown in WordPress

August 12, 2019

Welcome to WPBeginner and thank you for watching.
In this video you’ll learn what markdown is and how to use it in WordPress. Markdown is a language that converts plain
text into html code. For example something written like this will
be converted my Markdown into this. This is great if you use a text editor to
write your posts for WordPress. This way you can add your formatting while you’re writing and
when you add it to your WordPress post the formatting is already there. In order for markdown to work on a WordPress
site, you need to install and activate the wp-markdown plugin. Then go to Settings–>Writing and
scroll down to the markdown section. Here you can choose where to enable the markdown to work, either posts or pages or both, and then click save changes. Now we can go add a new post and see it in
action. You’ll see the default WordPress visual editor and the text editors are replaced by the markdown editor. And you’ll see a live preview of the text
you type. You can also use this Markdown Syntax cheat
sheet as a reference for your writing. Once you get this syntax cheat sheet down, you can quickly write your posts without having to look at it. 1. If you have Jetpack installed (a common and versatile plugin), you can activate Markdown in it, and avoid the bloat of an extra plugin.

  2. Can someone please tell me why WordPress have rearranged their settings so stupidly that it took me five minutes just to find what plugins I had installed? And why isn't Markdown working for my site? Why? Why does this need to be so complicated? It should be as easy as using it straight out of the box. Why do I have to sift through hours of out of date video tutorials to use a website that should be EASY TO USE for beginners? Ridiculous.

  3. One thing that drives me nuts about WP is having to find the right editor to use. I look forward to the day they have 1 editor,1 editor only, not two types of editors…

no matter if you're coming from your admin or wordpress. It's really annoying, or maybe I just can't get used to it. I still haven't figured out which one is better to use. Maybe you can explain it to me. Appreciate it
