August 15, 2019

JetPack is a smorgasbord of features that
lets you pick and choose which features to activate or deactivate to fit your sites needs.
With JetPack you can use the power of the WordPress cloud and get features like stats,
sharing, notifications, gravatar hovercards, post by email and much more. And, like with any plugin, keeping it updated
to work with the current version of WordPress and getting support can be a problem. But
since JetPack is developed by the same people that maintain the core WordPress files, you
can be assured that it will be maintained and updated, that it will work properly with
the current version of WordPress and support will always be available. JetPack is installed like any other plugin
that can found in the WordPress plugin repository. Under the Plugins Add New Admin screen search
for JetPack. Click the Install Now link under the JetPack from WordPress.com and follow
the instructions to install and activate the plugin. Once activated JetPack adds a link to the
Admin menu. Click this link to activate the JetPack screen. Initially you’ll get a message banner saying
you need to connect to WordPress.com. To take advantage of the JetPack features you will
need access to the WordPress cloud. You can get this with a free WordPress.com account.
Various features, like stats and notifications, are maintained and pulled from the WordPress
cloud. Clicking the link will take you to that login
screen to connect. From there you can login in or create a new account. If you are already
logged into your WordPress.com account then the information will be automatically filled
in for you. Otherwise, enter the username and password for the account you want associated
with JetPack and click the Authorize JetPack button. This returns you to the JetPack plugin screen.
You now have access to the WordPress cloud. JetPack instantly activates several features
for you. The ones activated will be darker than the rest and will have a Learn More button
and, if needed, a Configure button. The ones not activated will have a Learn More button
and an Activate button in the module panel. Additional information about the feature can
be seen by clicking the Learn More button. This activates a drop-down screen with the
information and adds a Deactivate button in case you want to deactivate this feature.
Features can be deactivated and re-activated at any time. The information screen can be
closed by clicking the X at the upper right of the screen. Most of the options are marked Free. The ones
that require any form of payment are marked Purchase. Some options require configuration to be fully
functional. Clicking on any of the Configure buttons will activate the settings screen
for that feature. The JetPack features that are initially activated
